You can now move the field around using your mouse or the arrow keys, resize it and edit the label for it. Choose the one you want and then click on the area of the layout you want it to be (you can click and drag to get a different shape/size of field, but if you just click once it will default to the standard field size).
From this toolbar, you can select which type of field you want to add to your layout. You will see a screen that looks like your layout, with a toolbar on the left. If not, you can access it by going to Tools… Design Layouts and then selecting which layout you wish to edit (Contact, Company etc). If you have just finished adding new fields, when you click Close it should prompt you to go to the Design Layouts screen. If you have finished adding all your fields you can click Close. The final page you can usually ignore – it allows you to launch an external application when a field is updated, but not many people use it!Ĭlick Finish to create your field and go back to the main menu. Note that if a field needs to hold more than 255 characters you should set it to be a Memo field on the first page. Here, you can set up a default value for the field and add a default format (if applicable), and also increase the size of the field if it will need to hold more than 50 characters.
You could call your Sage Business Partner to assist you with this, but if it is just a few fields then it is probably quicker to do it yourself! Simply follow these instructions. As you use your Sage ACT! database more, you may find that you need some new fields added to your layout.
